With Friends Like These . . .

The Smoking Gun has the perfect way to celebrate the long-overdue death of Friends. It's a harassment claim by a woman who worked as a writer's assistant for the show. I'm generally skeptical of sexual harassment claims, the "hostile environment" concept, claims of racism etc., and I'm definitely not knowledgable enough to comment on whether the plaintiff, Amaani Lyle, has a case here. Still, whatever your point of view on such matters, if even half of what's alleged in this complaint is true it's pretty clear that the writers of Friends, at least the male ones, are a bunch of horny little jerks. Lyle alleges over 90 separate instances of sexual and racial harassment. However this case comes out it's clear that the writers of Friends lived as they wrote: immature, sex-obsessed, and making a lot of jokes that weren't really funny.
