If posts and exchanges like this and this tell me nothing else, it's that I need to stop doing this. I'll still be blogging though, just in a completely different register about completely different sorts of things, at my new blog Blatherist.

Ouch. Read those exchanges, and you have my sympathies. Jeff G. has an extremely thin skin, and usually has a tantrum when any criticism is directed at him. I've seen it happen on quite a few blogs. At any rate, it was certainly overreaction to a moderately-toned posting on your part.

Jeff G, like many "funny" conservative bloggers, confuses venom with wit. Still, I feel I was remiss in not linking to any of the countless accounts of FEMA's screwups etc. It seems self-evident from the fact that Bush actually acknowledged screw-ups, "Brownie" was taken off Katrina duties etc. that there were flaws in the response to the hurricane, but the ethic of blogs is that you have to provide copious linkage etc. even if your contention is sand-poundingly obvious, and you have to hear out and rationally refute ideas no matter how crazy. I just don't have the time to deal with all that anymore which is why I'm trying to move away from political blogging.
"Thin-skinned". You bet. Conservative bloggers are generally some of the most thin-skinned people you'll ever encounter, way more thin-skinned than the journalists whom they're constantly attacking. The way they shriek when they, or worse a politician or blogger to whom they're remotely connected is criticized is absurd.
